International Day of Persons with Disabilities

3 December 2009

In a gathering like today's, with people with disabilities from various provinces and backgrounds, there was a real variety of wheelchairs.  All but one or two were made locally and most showed adaptations such as for living in areas where there are no paved roads or for travel or for mostly sitting and working.

It rather surprised me—when I went to check on our guard who was watching over parked bicycles and motorcycles—to see a group of wheelchairs parked there, too!  I guessed I just assumed that the people using the wheelchairs would be in them all the time, but apparently they relocated to some of the chairs in the seating section and then their wheelchairs were all grouped together.
