Nanny Stenman Visit--Page 5

The Deaf Development Program has classrooms in Phnom Penh and the provinces of Kampot and Kampong Chhnang. So that Nanny could see our operations in the field, we took her to Kampong Chhnang, both because that is a province where we have started from scratch this year and because of the poverty of the area.

Meeting with Yi Dara

After the two-hour drive to Kampong Chhnang, our first stop was at Land Mine Disability Support where we talked with their director Mr. Yi Dara. LMDS works closely with DDP.

Visiting a school principal

Then we went to the government school where DDP has two classes of deaf students. First we went to say hello to the principal who has an exceptionally clean and tidy school.

One of the DDP classrooms

This is the classroom of Chan Thorng. These students started in May and had never been in school one day in their life before that.

Talking to students about job training

Sou Poly, our job training officer, talked to some of the students about possible future training when they finish their basic education.

Two teachers

Celina Campas with two of the students and the two teachers, Chan Thorng and Bolika.

School with DDP classrooms

DDP is very fortunate to have found classroom space in this well-run school even though we need to add electricity ourselves.
