Ossi at DDP House
13 March 2008

Part of the Skills Development Project is DDP House, a hostel for students from the rural provinces who come to Phnom Penh for job training.  Ossi visited DDP House and met some of the students, and then went to the Deaf Community Center on the same property to see that facility.

A boys bedroom DDP House has three floors. The bottom floor has a common room and kitchen and the supervisor's room, the second floor is for boys, and the third floor is for the girls.  Here Ossi takes a picture of the accommodations for boys in one of the second floor rooms.
Another bedroom for boys Both the girls' rooms and the boys' rooms have three-high bunk beds that allow us to put six students in one room. Each room has its own bath. Each student also has half of a wooden cabinet for storing clothes and other possessions.
A bedroom for girls The girls' rooms on the third floor tend to be a bit neater, more colorful, and have more items in them, but otherwise they are the same as the boys' rooms. Many of the students prefer to sleep on the floor, like they do at home, rather than on the beds.
In the Deaf Community Center, Ossi takes pictures of the signs illustrating the rules for the building: taking care of furniture, no drinking, no gossiping, etc., all illustrated with photographs and sign language.
