Beginning the Meetings |
The last meeting scheduled with an organization in the disability sector was with Krousar Thmey. Cheam Kosal (left), the general director of Krousar Thmey explained their history and present activities to Virpi, Anja, and Tiina while Neang Phalla took notes at the Krousar Thmey office.
The FAD group then visited the Krousar Thmey deaf school where they were met by Dara, a long-time teacher and staff member at the school.
Deaf children in the first grade. They are learning the Khmer alphabet, writing letters on their slates.
Tiina Hedrén spoke to the students as a deaf adult to deaf children, explaining that she comes from a cold country unlike their own Cambodia.
Back in Phnom Penh, the group decided to eat lunch together and Justin Smith rode his bicycle to the restaurant.
The rest of the afternoon was spent in formal discussion of a proposal through the Finnish Association of the Deaf to the foreign ministry of Finland. Here Sokly, the DDP manager, explains to Anja the location of various places being discussed.
The meetings ended at 5:00 PM when the CRS offices we were using closed, but then there was more discussion out in the street. |
