Johanna Karinen

This evening Johanna Karinen, the project coordinator or liaison of the Finnish Association of the Deaf with the Maryknoll Deaf Development Programme, arrived in Phnom Penh to begin a week of meetings about the projects that FAD funds.

Arrival in Phnom Penh
5 February 2012

Johanna was project coordinator for Finland earlier before she took maternity leave and was last in Cambodia in 2002. Charlie Dittmeier and two other present staff met Johanna on her first visit to the Deaf Development Programme ten years ago.

After a relatively long flight from Helsinki and a night with no sleep, Johanna was surprisingly awake--and enjoying the 30ºC temperature of Phnom Penh. When she left Helsinki fifteen hours before it was -30ºC! Quite a temperature change! Justin Smith and Charlie accompanied Johanna to her hotel in a tuk-tuk to give her the full experience of today's Cambodia!
