Special Performance
25 February 2008

Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, the chairman of the Nippon Foundation wished to see the show which will conclude the Spotlight Festival week but could not stay the entire week in Cambodia so a special show was arranged for him at the Mith Samlanh training center. It also gave the performers another time to show their skills and receive recognition for all their hard work.

Backstage, the deaf dancers from the Dong Nai School in Ho Chi Minh City adjusted their costumes and put on their make-up for this special show.
The Roa Taiko drummers from Koshu Prefecture in Japan gave another rousing demonstration of their drumming prowess.
Mith Samlanh is an NGO serving street children and hundreds of their clients crowded the auditorium to enjoy the show along with Mr. Sasakawa and special guests.
A group of young women with mobility disabilities performed the traditional Khmer blessing dance.
A young woman from India, an amputee, performed a spirited dance in the style of the Bollywood movies.
The Dong Nai girls then performed a traditional Vietnamese dance with fans.
The next act was a mime routine performed by members of the Phnom Penh deaf community who practiced their skills and developed this skit in a weeklong workshop with Ramesh, the professional deaf mime from Singapore.
Both boys and girls from the Dong Nai School performed a modern hip-hop routine.
Mr. Sasakawa thanked all the performers and then awarded prizes for the different performances and medals from the Nippon Foundation.
The deaf performers created a strong bond among themselves during rehearsals and their other times together, and at the end of the show, the deaf students from Cambodia and from Vietnam posed for a photo with Mr. Sasakawa.
