DDP Strategic Planning
26-30 May 2008

28 May -- Day 3

Today the strategic planning workshop welcomed some new representatives who will spend two days with us to offer their input. Then the rest of the day was used to develop a vision of what DDP should look like in the next five years.

Two deaf youth and a sign language interpreter checking photographs on the whiteboard.
Two of the teachers, one from Kampot and one from Phnom Penh, checking some notes.
A deaf field worker and the job training project officer having fun during a break.
Playing a game at the end of the break, to bring everyone back together. The workshop facilitators have been good with the games they have used.
Then it was back to work with all the group gathered in a circle for some input from the facilitator.
Deaf people work much better in small groups where they have a chance to question the sign language they see and ask for explanation of unknown concepts.
Usually each of the small groups has a sign language interpreter as part of the group to facilitate understanding and communication.
These groups were all working on a vision statement for the Deaf Development Programme, a statement in words of what they would like the DDP world to look like in 5 years.
Working on the floor is first nature to Cambodian people. The majority of Cambodian households would not have a chair in them.
Today the DDP staff and students were joined by some outside "stakeholders," people who have an interest in DDP's programs. Some were parents of DDP students from the provinces, some were representatives from other NGOs that work as partners with DDP.
A group putting the finishing touches on a written statement of their idea of what the DDP vision should be.
