DDP Strategic Planning
26-30 May 2008

29 May -- Day 4

On this second-to-last day of the workshop, we spent the morning developing a mission statement for DDP--a statement of the purpose of DDP. Then in the afternoon we began talking about our major goals, starting with some goals from our previous strategic plan.

A lot of the day was spent on the floor again. The small groups met in the morning to work on the mission statement for the Deaf Development Programme.
Sometimes the progress in the large group and in the small groups is rather slow because some of the deaf people are not familiar with some of the concepts which need to be explained.
Finally, near the end of the morning it was time to vote for one of four possible mission statements.
The interaction among the DDP staff members is one of the most helpful dynamics of the whole strategic plan process, no matter what the final plan turns out to be.
Keat Sokly, the program manager, helps the two sign language researchers to put the goals of their project into good Khmer for a small group report.
We were fortunate to have very active people from outside DDP participating in the strategic planning process. Even those who are parents of deaf students, and who tend to be quiet in gatherings like this, spoke up for their children's interests and offered good input.
