Today was the day to begin the official Annual Negotiations Meeting between Finnish Association of the Deaf and the Maryknoll Deaf Development Programme. We met all day long at the DDP office in Phnom Penh.

Annual Negotiations Meeting
9 February 2012

In years past, when the Finnish Association of the Deaf funded all the different activities of the Deaf Development Programme, the Annual Negotiation Meetings would take three or four days. Now when FAD is funding only the Deaf Community Development Project, the actual formal meetings are much more focused and much shorter. For these meetings, Ms. Cori Parks, a former American Sign Language interpreter from the United States, interpreted into sign language.

At the break, Ratha, the center manager in Kampong Cham, took some notes.

For lunch the five of us went to a Khmer-style restaurant near the old American Embassy in Phnom Penh.

(Clockwise) Justin Smith, Keat Sokly, Satia, Johanna Karinen, Cori Parks, and Ratha carried on a discussion in the afternoon about the focus of a future hoped-for funding cycle from FAD. Many of the present activities will be included but there will be a strong emphasis on agriculture.
