Job Description: House Parent

Position:  House Parent
Location: Kampong Cham
Project:  Deaf Community Development Project

1. Nature of the position

The nature of the position of House Parent is to supervise deaf trainees living at DDP House in Kampong Cham and to ensure the overall operation of the house. The deaf traines are generally from 18-25 years of age. The House Parent will work under the supervision of and report to the Center Manager in Kampong Cham.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The House Parent will be responsible for:

• Supervising deaf residents to buy food and cooking
• Supervising deaf resident to clean the house daily to ensure cleanliness
• Resolving conflict among deaf residents and implementing disciplinary actions
• Bringing deaf residents to the clinic/hospital in cases of sickness
• Leading deaf residents to do basic physical exercise
• Providing orientation to new residents on household policies, chores, games, etc.
• Managing the daily expenses of the house

3. Essential Requirements

The House Parent should have all requirements as mentioned below:

• At least a high school degree
• Good personality (i.e., being polite, flexible and faithful)
• Experience of social services and with people with disabilities is preferable
• Professional behaviour
• Strong commitment to the responsibilities of the position
• Ability to "think ahead" and plan
• Ability and desire to learn and use Cambodian Sign Language
• Spirit of respecting deaf people
• Must live in Kampong Cham

4. Expected Results

• A safe, clean and comfortable DDP House will be available for all the residents
• Residents living at DDP House feel the house is like their home
• DDP House policies and regulations are known and respected by residents
