Mission to Cambodia |
The Asia Pacific Center for Development of Disabilities (APCD) in Bangkok came to Phnom Penh today to begin a mission to Cambodia to develop collaboration between the two countries in the area of deafness. They invited the Deaf Development Programme to send 15 people to a workshop during the next two days, and today Justin Smith prepared the group for what they will be discussing in the workshop.
After visiting the Disability Action Council and the Ministry of Social Affairs, the APCD delegation came to the Deaf Development Programme where first they discussed the program for the rest of the week.
The group then toured the DDP office and classrooms. Here Charlie Dittmeier explains the basic education program while Somchai Rungsilp makes some notes.
The next stop was the workroom of the sign language project where the Thai visitors were able to meet a lot of the deaf people who will be participating in the workshop the next two days. Here Yongyut Borrisut speaks to the Cambodian deaf young people.
Then the DDP management met with the APCD delegation again and viewed a presentation on DDP and its work and then discussed what is going on in Cambodia.
Before the Thai guests left DDP, Yongyut Borrisut, the president of the National Association of the Deaf Thailand, presented a copy of the Thai sign language books to DDP and DDP presented a set of the recently published Cambodian books to APCD. |
